Arne Jacobsen

Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971) is one of the most famous Danish designers, mainly known for his collaboration with Fritz Hansen furniture manufacture. His designs represents for many experts the turning point in the development of modern Danish and Scandinavian furniture design. Arne Jacobsen has also made a name in the field of tableware design and the table decorations thanks to his Cylinda-line collection for Stelton. Arne Jacobsen graduated from the Academy of Arts in Copenhagen in 1927. Just one year later he received the Gold Medal of the Academy followed by many other international awards, e.g. the ID Prize for Cylinda-line collection in 1967 from the Danish Society for Industrial Design and the International Design Award in 1968 from the American Institute of Interior Designers. His major architectural work includes SAS building (Royal Hotel) in Copenhagen, St. Catherine's College in Oxford or town hall in Århus, Søllerød, Rødovre and Glostrup. Arne Jacobsen was a professor at the Copenhagen Art Academy and had several honorary doctorates of various international universities.
