Kristina Isola

Kristina Isola

The designer Kristina Isola was born in Helsinki in 1946. Her mother was the first designer and later chief designer of the Finnish cult brand Marimekko. In 1962 Kristina worked as her mother's personal assistant, where she made her first sketches at the age of 16 and later herself as a designer. Many of Marimekko's famous patterns come from her, including Nimikko and Kaksi Raitaa. She also reworked many of her mother's famous patterns such as Unikko, Melooni, Kivet and Sateenkaari, giving them new colours and a new look.

Kristiina Isola studied at the Free Art School in Helsinki and in the Photography Department at the Institute of Industrial Arts. Kristina is currently designing her own textile patterns for the brands Gingko and Biloba, among others.
