The designer duo Aamu Song and Johan Olin got their inspiration for August stool through the Finnish and Swiss master Nikari cabinetmaker Kari Virtanen and Rudi Merz. Based on their high quality wooden furniture produced with great attention to detail, August stool is a combination of ,legs' by Rudi Merz and ,head' by Kari Virtanen. The stool made of ash. The design ensures stability of the stool by the connection of the chair legs and the seat at its most powerful parts, namely where the branches of the tree grow. This innovative idea has been used, for example by Rudi Merz, also with hangers. The seat of the stool August has been ground down to the last delicacy, just as one expects from Kari Virtanen.
August stool was developed within the project Nikari '12 Designs for Nature' in cooperation with the Finnish WWF. 12 Finnish and international designers have created a piece of wooden design furniture for the respective month, taking into account the Nikari philosophy of highest quality and sustainability. The stool August is a very successful one, made of maple and ash in typical Scandinavian simple design.
