Marimekko

Marimekko

Marimekko is a Finnish company based in Helsinki that significantly influenced fashion in the 1960s. Marimekko is mostly known for brightly colored printed fabrics and simple cuts, applied to female fashion or to home interior. Two designers who helped to make Marimekko a household name across the world are Vuokko Nurmesniemi with bold stripes, and Maija Isola with large simple flowered prints. Both patterns were very distinctive and influenced late 20th-century taste. Many of the early Marimekko designs, including Maija Isola's Unikko, remain in production today.
