Artek

Artek was founded in 1935 by Alvar and Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen, and Nils-Gustav Hahl. The business philosophy of the company was “to sell furniture and to promote a modern culture of living by exhibitions and other educational means”. The contemporary Artek collection includes furniture, lighting and accessories designed by the Nordic designer legends, e.g. Alvar Aalto, Ilmari Tapiovaara, Eero Aarnio, Ronan und Erwan Bouroullec, Konstantin Grcic, Tapio Wirkkala, Yrjö Kukkapuro, Shigeru Ban, Harri Koskinen, Artek’s collection is based on the original idea of Alvar Aalto’s bent wood L-leg system making the furniture range versatile and allowing it to be customised for individual projects. Artek’s furniture can be found in public areas or private homes.
