As in Finland and Denmark the same principles for design furniture apply in Sweden. Swedish furniture design is functional and stylish consisting of pure organic forms and adapting design to modern-day needs using new technologies. Wood is and has always been the dominant material in the production of high quality Swedish design furniture. Design in Sweden reflects everyday life of ordinary people. Swedish design furniture is extremely successful and Sweden is best-known for Scandinavian design not least due to Ikea. However, the contemporary Swedish design is more than that. It includes on one hand traditionally-oriented artisans focusing on glass and Sami techniques and on the other hand designers experimenting with modern materials, technologies and forms. Sweden has many highly skilled architects and designers with international reputation such as Bruno Mathsson, Yngve Ekström, Claesson Koivisto Rune, and Monica Förster to name just a few.
