Finnish design

Finnish design furniture belongs to the most-loved design classics of modern furniture design and modernism. Alvar Aalto’s revolutionary bent-wood armchair Paimio, Kaj Franck’s Kartio glassware or Eero Saarinen’s Tulip chair are just few examples of timeless Finnish design classics. These pieces of furniture are still in production and as desirable today as they were back then. Typical for Finnish design are clean simple lines, high functionality and usage of wood. The essential about the Finnish design is that it is part of everyday life and nothing distant. Finnish designers create beautiful yet for everyone affordable furniture and tableware for day-to-day use. Finnish design furniture, tableware and textiles are not always widely known as Finnish, as the Finns are rather quiet and do not make a noise about their achievements. They rather let the design objects speak for themselves. However, there are quite a few international well-known Finnish design brands such as Iittala, Marimekko and Artek which produce lovely Nordic furniture, tableware and home decoration.
