The fixture of the Munkegaard from Danish manufacturer Louis Poulsen looks like a disc hovering just below the ceiling – an impression primarily created by the illuminated opening and the suspended placement of the fixture below the mounting surface. The 2-layer glass/acrylic shade of the Munkegaard in simple, Scandinavian design ensures uniform, gently diffuse lighting. This fixture gives the room the illusion of extra height.
Arne Jacobsen designed the Munkegaard fixture for Munkegårdsskolen in Søborg, Denmark in 1955. This was the first recessed fixture which illuminated the ceiling, thereby evening out light contrasts. The fixture had a discreet, Nordic presence in the room, in line with Arne Jacobsen´s architectural approach.
The Munkegaard from Louis Poulsen in Scandinavian design emits diffuse, comfortable light and a very uniform light distribution due to the glass diffuser, which eliminates glare spots on the ceiling. The simple, Nordic ceiling lamp is available in different sizes and wattages with easy bulb changes. With it's minimalistic optic the Munkegaard suits into every room, floor and halls.
