Artek chair 401 is a refreshing interpretation of Alvar Aalto armchair 401 from 1933 by Hella Jongerius. The Belgian designer has created a new look for the chair 401 produced by Artek among other products such as stool 60 for the Finnish furniture manufacturer. Chair 401 is very comfortable chair with extended backrest and curved wooden arms that merge seamlessly. The smooth organic lines give the armchair an elegant appearance in clean Scandinavian style. They are also the personal signature of its creator Alvar Aalto. Hella Jongerius uses bi-coloured structured fabrics and colour-blocking in her contemporary makeover of the chair 401 that let the armchair appear in a more modern look. Thus, Hella Jongerius wanted to give depth and warmth to the chair’s high-backed, structured profile with the inclusion of two darker wood finishes. Now the iconic chair has two colors for the front, and a third covering the back. Artek armchair 401 is fascinated by lovers of Nordic design as well as design-focused individuals. The chair merges harmoniously into timelessly modern as well as traditional ambience. 401 chair is a real eye-catcher in a living room or in any other space.
